Welcome to the eighth annual Student Leadership Institute at Cornell (SLIC)! The Student Leadership Institute is designed to provide student officers from registered organizations with the opportunity to explore topics relevant to their roles as student leaders. The Institute features a Keynote Speaker and workshops on topics such as member recruitment, comprehensive event management, activism on campus, group goal setting, effective meeting management, contract negotiation, team building, programming for a diverse campus and more.

This year's conference will take place on Sunday, February 8, 2009 in Willard Straight Hall. We are excited to have Susan H. Murphy, Vice President for Student and Academic Services, join us as our Keynote Speaker.

This year's attendees will be selected to participate through an application process. We are only accepting the top 100 applications in hopes of providing a more enriching experience in cultivating their leadership skills and abilities here at Cornell.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

The institute is designed for student leaders of Cornell's clubs and organizations. We also encourage other student leaders to attend who may not be part of a club/organization. For example, student supervisors, managers, ambassadors, etc. If you would like to register a group, please contact the Student Activities Office.

Each recipient will receive:

  • Great training from professional staff members, faculty, and experienced student leaders
  • The opportunity to meet other student leaders from across campus
  • Knowledge about resources Cornell University has to offer
  • Giveaways
  • Breakfast, lunch, and refreshments.


APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. This year's Student Leadership Institute will be limited to 100 participants. All student leaders are encouraged to apply. However, preference will be given to those students who are officers, or hold leadership positions in undergraduate or graduate/professional registered student organizations (those organizations registered with the Student Activities Office at Cornell University). Priority preference will be given to those students who will be in a leadership position in 2009-2010.
  2. All applicants must complete the on-line application form. The deadline for completing the on-line application form is Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at 9:00 pm.
  3. The cost of the institute is $10.00 per person. Acceptable forms of payment are cash, check, Cornell card, credit card, or university account transfer.
  4. Applicants who are approved for the institute will be notified via email by Friday, January 30. Approved applicants must pay the registration fee in person at the Willard Straight Hall Ticket Office no later than 5:00 pm Wednesday, February 4, 2009. Please note that registration fees are not refundable.
  5. Those who are not approved to attend the institute will be notified, and placed on a wait list.
